SodaStream Misses Earnings And Sales In Q2

SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA – Snapshot Report) makes beverage carbonation systems which transforms tap water into soft drinks and sparkling water. SodaStream's products are primarily sold at major retail stores like Kohl's, Corp, Macy's and Bed Bath & Beyond.

The U.S. carbonated soft drink (CSD) market is facing troubles as consumers are shifting away from traditional soda toward more natural, less caloric and water-based beverages. SodaStream is gradually shifting towards toward health and wellness brands and is making significant changes in its growth strategies. The company is rolling out a new portfolio of water enhanced flavors to boost demand for its soda machines.

SodaStream has been reporting soft sales in the U.S. over the past few quarters due to low demand for its products — soda/sparkling water machines and flavored syrups. In addition, unfavorable foreign currency, implementation of global restructuring and growth acted as headwinds throughout first half of 2015.

Investors should also note the earnings estimate for SODA has been stable for sometime. However, SODA does have a decent history in earnings season. SODA has delivered positive earnings surprise in the past three out of four quarters, making for an average positive earnings surprise of 166.07%.
