Does it pay to own the S&P 500 the last week of the year? Since 1950, the week with the highest percentage of times of moving higher, is this week (last full week of the year). 71% of the time over the past 60-years, the S&P 500 has moved higher this week.

Since 1871, the S&P 500 has averaged 8.5% “after inflation,”  according to Chimp (see table here)

Think about this….The average percentage gain for this week is .84%. That means that almost 10% of the average yearly gains after inflation, takes place during the last week of the year.

The majority of the time (70%), it has paid to own the S&P 500 the last week of the year, will it be different this time?
